McCloud River Railroad   -    McCloud Railway  -  Lake Britton

The Historic and Present Day
By an appreciative rail fan and admirer of the hundred mile short line, that defied, weather, mountains, time and economics, for the longest time.

The Lake Britton bridge spans a portion of the lake as it narrows back into the pit river.  This span was constructed in 1955 and cost one man his life. This may be the most famous portion of the railroad, though nobody knows it. It was featured in the movie "Stand By Me" with Wil Wheaton and River Phoenix. Whenever I have read of the Lake Britton Bridge, note has always been made of the nearby bridge crossing highway 89, so I have included pictures of that as well.
